You could have the most entertaining video in the world, but if you don’t market it correctly, no one will ever see it. With today’s social media tools, a video can either die within minutes if it isn’t noticed, or go viral and live on for years to come. While you don’t want your video to go viral for the wrong reasons, there are a few things you can do to ensure people who watch it want to share it with friends, family members, and everyone else.
Most importantly, like anything on the internet you need to capture a viewer’s attention within seconds. Even if your video has some necessary segments that some would consider boring, don’t put those at the beginning. Make sure the opening few seconds are unique or exciting enough that people will not only want to keep watching, but will want to share it right away.
Other videos that are spread quickly are ones that contain surprises. People love to show their friends commercials or other types of videos that have either twist endings or some sort of unexpected element. However, be careful to not cross the line into shocking people. Surprising is good, but shocking them for the wrong reasons can lead them to never wanting to think about your video again.
Other highly shareable videos are ones that support a cause, contain emotional highs and lows, and provide something valuable to the viewer. Use social media tools to make sharing as easy as possible, and don’t be afraid to ask people to “like” it and share it!
