Choosing the Right Voice for Your Commercial

Many commercials have some type of narration, typically by a man or woman who you never actually see in the video. This work is done by a voice over artist, and finding the right one is extremely important when it comes to your finished product. The voice over can make or break any commercial, and choosing someone with a flat voice, or even just a voice that doesn’t suit the tone of the video, can ruin the entire thing. Take advantage of the following tips to find the perfect voice over artist for your next video production!

First of all, don’t be afraid to hold a casting call and audition dozens of people, if not more. Have them read the commercial script to get an idea of how the real thing will actually sound. This should help you narrow down the selection to a few artists, as long as you know what to look for.

Finding the right voice can be difficult, which is why you should have at least a few people listen in on the auditions. But it all comes down to your commercial or video and the desired effect you are going for. If you are making a commercial for a car dealership and you are trying to catch people’s attention about a hot deal, you need to have someone who is excited, confident, and even a bit loud. On the other hand, if your commercial is for a daycare center, you should choose someone with a kind, soft, and caring voice.

It also helps if you can choose someone who would also be available for future productions. If your company plans on creating a series of commercials, having the same voice in each of them can create a sense of familiarity with the brand, allowing potential clients to more easily recognize your business.

These are just a few tips to help you get started the next time you are choosing a voice over artist. For more video production tips, keep checking back with the team at Omni Media Productions!
